From Monolith to Microservices: A Migration Guide

From Monolith to Microservices

It's a classic story: successful startup hits scale, and their Rails or Django monolith starts to creak.

The Strangler Fig Pattern

Don't rewrite everything. Identify one bounded context (e.g., "Notifications" or "Billing") and extract it into a service. Route traffic to the new service gradually.

Event-Driven Architecture

Microservices shouldn't talk to each other synchronously (HTTP). Use an event bus like Kafka or RabbitMQ (or Amazon EventBridge) to decouple services.

The Cost of Complexity

Microservices add operational overhead. Make sure you have the DevOps maturity (Kubernetes, Observability) to handle it before you switch.

Struggling with technical debt? Let's re-architect your platform for Scale.
